AS 1528:2019 suite of standards published
ASSDA is pleased to share the news that the revised AS 1528 integrated suite of standards has been published by Standards Australia:
AS 1528.1:2019: Stainless steel tubes and tube fittings for food processing and hygienic applications - Tubes
AS 1528.2:2019: Stainless steel tubes and tube fittings for food processing and hygienic applications – Screwed tube couplings
AS 1528.3:2019: Stainless steel tubes and tube fittings for food processing and hygienic applications – Butt weld tube fittings
AS 1528.4:2019: Stainless steel tubes and tube fittings for food processing and hygienic applications – Clamp tube fittings
The aim of AS 1528 is to standardise hygienic tube for use in dairy, food and beverage manufacturing, and has been successful in maintaining the required food safety standards in Australia and New Zealand. It is currently the only dimensionally integrated set of stainless steel tube and fitting standards in the world.
The revision of the AS 1528 suite of standards from 2001 has brought the documents’ technical coverage up to current practice and recognised the target industries in which hygienic tube is used. We are confident the new standards will be easier to understand and use, and an economical product that is capable of being verified for compliance and that achieves the required hygienic conditions.

ASSDA would like to take this opportunity to thank the FT-027 Committee for their considerable work and efforts in the revision process, with special acknowledgement to technical consultant Peter Moore (formerly of Atlas Steels), Kim Burton (Burton Consulting) and Graham Sussex (Sussex Materials Solutions). The drafting journey to bringing this important standard up to date began in 2015 and has been a challenge, but its successful outcome is significant for the industry and a testament to everyone involved.
