Webinar Overview
The public perception of stainless steel is that it is bright, shiny and will last for a very long time, but most do not realise the variety of finishes, properties and levels of corrosion resistance that are available.

Starting with a brief history of the explosion of applications using stainless steel, this webinar will describe and explain the differences between carbon steels and the families of stainless steels, including using the alloy composition to determine its corrosion resistance. The labels for alloys will also be explained – specifically the US (ASTM), European (EN) and UNS labels.

Surface finish is critical for stainless steel for aesthetic and other reasons, and while some finishes are determined by the production process, designers and fabricators have access to an enormous range of textures and colours which will be outlined with their advantages and limitations. While stainless steels are extremely durable and hygienic, their maintenance requirements will also be discussed along with some precautions in design and fabrication which must be considered.

Presenter: Dr Graham Sussex, Technical Specialist
