ASSDA wins Gold at 2026 World Stainless Steel Industry Awards for Market Development excellence
ASSDA is proud to announce that, in collaboration with its Member Ronstan Tensile Architecture, the Narre Warren Station project has been awarded the Gold Award in the Market Development category at the 2026 Stainless Steel Industry Awards, hosted by World Stainless.
The awards ceremony, held on 20 May 2026 in Johannesburg, South Africa, recognises outstanding global innovation and market development in stainless steel. This recognition highlights the strength of collaboration between ASSDA, its Members, and industry partners in delivering high-performance, sustainable outcomes.
Delivered by Built Environs in collaboration with Ronstan Tensile Architecture, the Narre Warren Station project on Melbourne’s Pakenham Line replaced a conventional structural solution of 30 tonnes of carbon steel beams with just 3 tonnes of stainless steel cable, fittings and components.
Officially opened on 28 March 2024, the project removed a major rail-road crossing and delivered a safer, modern transport hub for Melbourne.

Ronstan re-engineered the ceiling support system into stainless steel cable bowstring trusses spanning 25 metres across three bays, using grade 316 stainless steel to deliver a lighter, more durable and efficient solution.
The outcome delivered a 90% reduction in material use, significantly reduced embodied carbon, minimal maintenance requirements in a constrained rail environment, and improved constructability through modular installation within a live rail corridor. Ronstan’s engineering-led approach, combining advanced modelling, testing, and ISO 9001 QA/QC, was central to achieving a safe, optimised result.
This Gold Award recognises the innovation led by Ronstan Tensile Architecture, with ASSDA proud to have supported and shared this outstanding example of stainless steel application through its industry network. It also reinforces Australia’s growing influence in global stainless steel innovation, where collaboration between Members, engineers, and industry partners continues to deliver world-class outcomes.
This marks ASSDA’s fourth accolade at the World Stainless Steel Industry Awards. In 2024, ASSDA received a Bronze Award for Market Development for the Stainless Steel Coastal Fencing Solution with Member Stainless Steel Wire & Mesh. In 2023, ASSDA received a Silver Award for Best New Development for the Duplex Wire Rope Cable Solution, delivered by Member and Accredited Fabricator Arcus Wire Group, and in 2020, a Silver Award for the Murray Irrigation PIIOP Round 3 Project, delivered by Member and Accredited Fabricator AWMA Water Control Solutions.
